Celebrated on March 20th every year, Proposal Day is a nonofficial holiday that celebrates the act of people asking their partners for their hands in marriage. It’s a great day to pop the question to the one that you want to marry and it’s also a great day to give your partner hints if you want them to ask you to marry them. No matter how it’s done, however, there is sure to be love in the air on this day.

History of Proposal Day

Proposal Day was created by John Michael O’Loughlin a few years ago. Who’s John Michael O’Loughlin, you ask? I don’t know but he’s a guy who supposedly invented this holiday because his cousin’s boyfriend wouldn’t propose to his cousin, so I guess he created the day to force their hand. I’m not sure if that’s the case but that’s the story behind this holiday. What is known though, is that it has been heavily popularized thanks to the Internet over the last couple of years. It’s continuing popularity may one day allow it to compete with Valentine’s Day.

Celebrating Proposal Day

There are a few ways to celebrate this holiday. You can propose to someone you want to propose to; you can hint at your significant other that you want them to propose to you or you can throw a proposal day party where a group of people all come together to make proposals to their significant others.

Another way to celebrate this holiday is pick up the 2009 movie “The Proposal” starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Perhaps you can watch it with your partner and a bucket of hot buttered popcorn.

Conclusion

No matter how you celebrate this holiday, it’s a good day to show the person you love just how much they mean to you.
